The annual Memorial Day Observance takes place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29 at St. Paul Cemetery on the north side of Lake Street, just east of Circle Avenue. The Bloomingdale Historical Society is joined by Bloomingdale VFW Post 7539, St Paul Evangelical Church. Bloomingdale Public Library, Village of Bloomingdale, Garden Club, Alden Valley Ridge and Scout Troops for this touching tribute to our veterans.
This year’s program is “The Folds of the Flag.” In addition to honoring all veterans in attendance, the VFW will present a Flag Folding demonstration with a narration to explain the meaning of each of the 12 folds. The entire program lasts about 45 minutes; free refreshments are available; patriotic music is provided by The Legends Ensemble. Limited parking is available in business lots to the west of the cemetery. Bring a lawn chair if you wish,or an umbrella in case of inclement weather.
Following the remembrance at the cemetery, all are welcome to join Bloomingdale VFW Post 7539 at 11 a.m. as it holds a brief ceremony at the Founders Point Gazebo on the corner of Bloomingdale Road & Fairfield Dr., in front of the library. Here they will lay a wreath at the base of the flag and perform a ten-gun salute in honor of those who served in the name of our country.
